The State of California mandates vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening at intervals for all public school students. The school districts are reimbursed for these costs by the state.

The County Schools Office hires nurses to perform the vision and scoliosis screening programs for the school districts in Tuolumne County. The hearing screening is contracted out to Stanislaus County Office of Education.

Hearing is screened for students in kindergarten, first, second, fifth and eigth grades. Vision is screened for students in kindergarten, second, fifth and eigth grades. Scoliosis screening is done for seventh grade girls and eighth grade boys.

Gift certificates for a visit to an eye doctor and glasses if needed may be provided through Sight for Students.
