Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) is a grant-funded program overseen by the California Department of Education. Through this program, substance abuse prevention curriculum is presented at the jr. high level in all the elementary schools in Tuolumne County. Students participate in an eleven week program designed to give them tools to prevent their use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. They also learn important health information regarding the use of these substances. The TUPE Coordinator also facilitates tobacco education and cessation groups, works with community groups, and ensures that all aspects of the grant are met.
